India Shines in FIDE Rankings: Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh in Top 5

India’s chess players have made history with their outstanding performances at the recent Chess Olympiad, where both the Indian teams clinched gold medals. The success didn’t stop there, as the latest FIDE rankings now show that India has two representatives in the top 5 rankings.

Arjun Erigaisi has achieved a remarkable feat by securing the No. 3 spot in the world rankings, while Gukesh has also made his mark by claiming the No. 5 position. Both players have touched their career-high ratings after their stellar performances at the Chess Olympiad.

Gukesh and Divya Deshmukh have also dominated the open juniors and girls categories, respectively, in the latest rankings. Their exceptional performances at the Budapest Chess Olympiad have propelled them to the top of the lists.

Notably, both Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh won individual gold medals on their respective boards at the Chess Olympiad. Arjun Erigaisi is now just three points away from breaking into the elusive 2800 club, while Gukesh gained a whopping 30 rating points to secure his spot in the top 5.

Meanwhile, the world champion from China, Ding Liren, has slipped out of the top 20 rankings after a disappointing performance at the Olympiad. Gukesh is set to face Ding Liren in the world chess championship later this year.

The Indian players’ unbeaten streak at the Olympiad, with Gukesh winning eight out of 10 games and Arjun Erigaisi winning nine out of 11 rounds, has been instrumental in their rise in the rankings.

With Divya Deshmukh also gaining 18 points in the past month, Indian chess players are making waves on the international stage. The success of players like Arjun Erigaisi, Gukesh, and Divya Deshmukh has put India on the map as a powerhouse in the world of chess.
