“Paws and Pawns: Exploring Animal Chess Sets Exhibition Opens at World Chess Hall of Fame”

The World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) is set to host a captivating exhibition titled “Paws and Pawns: Exploring Animal Chess Sets” starting January 30, 2025. This whimsical exhibition will showcase over 50 animal-themed chess sets from around the world, inviting visitors to explore the imaginative ways artists have drawn inspiration from the natural world to reinterpret the traditional chess board.

Curated by Emily Allred, the exhibition celebrates the creativity of chess artists and the enduring connection between chess and the animal kingdom. From regal lions to mighty Tyrannosaurus Rexes, artists have reimagined chess pieces to reflect the beauty, diversity, and symbolism of animals. Visitors will have the opportunity to see chess through a new lens and appreciate the incredible diversity of wildlife and artistic traditions worldwide.

Featuring artifacts from the WCHOF collection, as well as special loans from Chess Collectors International members, local collectors, and talented artists, “Paws and Pawns” promises to be a family-friendly and engaging experience. Interactive activities, workshops, and events will be available for visitors of all ages to inspire curiosity about the natural world and the artistry of chess.

Admission to the exhibition is free and open to the public, running from January 30 to August 31, 2025.
