Introducing the Chess.com Atomic Chess Championship: A Explosive Variant Tournament with $2,500 Prize Fund
Get ready for an explosive event in the world of chess! The Chess.com Atomic Chess Championship is back for its fourth installment this year, with a $2,500 prize fund up for grabs.
Atomic Chess is not your typical chess variant – every capture triggers an explosion that destroys anything in all adjacent squares, except for pawns. It’s a high-stakes game that will keep players on the edge of their seats.
The event kicks off on March 27 with the first qualifier, followed by seven more qualifiers throughout the day. The winners of each qualifier will advance to the knockout Final the next day, where they will compete for the title of Chess.com Atomic Chess Champion.
Participants may be required to join a video call for fair-play checks during the qualifiers, so make sure you have your cameras set up from different angles in your room. Non-compliance will result in removal from the event.
The Final will be broadcast live on the Community Twitch channel, so chess fans won’t want to miss the action. In the last edition of the Championships, FM Matfey Rogov emerged victorious in the 3-Check variant, becoming the first player to win two Community titles this year.
If you think you have what it takes to become the next Chess.com Atomic Chess Champion, mark your calendars and get ready to play with fire. Let us know in the comments what other variants you would like to see in future Championships!
