KCF University Cup Set to Take Place on February 1 – 2, 2025 on lichess.org Platform

The Kasparov Chess Foundation has announced the highly anticipated fifth annual KCF University Cup, set to take place on February 1 and 2, 2025. This international online tournament is open to teams from post-secondary institutions, such as universities, colleges, and community colleges, with all participating students required to be enrolled in at least one class in the January 2025 semester.

The KCF University Cup will feature a nine-round team Swiss system format over the course of two days, with a rapid time control. The tournament will be hosted on the popular and free chess platform, lichess.org.

Teams will consist of four players, with the option to have up to two alternates. To ensure fair competition, there is a team rating cap of 2400, meaning no team may have an average rating exceeding 2400. There is no entry fee for teams to participate in this exciting online event.

The first place winning team will receive the prestigious KCF University Cup and an exclusive online team training session with the legendary World Champion, Garry Kasparov. Additionally, plaques will be awarded to the top teams in various rating categories and regions, including the top “Mixed Doubles” team consisting of two males and two females.

The tournament will be overseen by a multinational team of officials and organizers, including renowned chess personalities such as GM Alex Onischuk and GM Zlatko Klaric.
