Krupal Wanjari emerged victorious in the 93rd weekend rapid chess tournament held at the Dhanwate National College in Nagpur. The tournament, organized by the Nagpur District Chess Association (NDCA), saw the young chess prodigy remain unbeaten throughout the competition.
Despite being seeded ninth, Krupal showcased his skills by winning seven games and drawing one, finishing with an impressive 7.5 points. The 15-year-old player surprised many by defeating third seed Shaunak Badole in the penultimate round and playing out the only draw of the tournament against Shraddha Bajaj. Krupal’s attacking style of play paid off as he secured victories in the remaining two games to clinch the top spot.
In the final round, Krupal utilized his opening advantage to outclass Kushagra Paliwal on the top board, solidifying his position as the tournament champion. Ansh Dhanvij and Shaunak followed closely behind with seven and 6.5 points respectively.
The prizes were later distributed by chief arbiter Pravin Pantawane, recognizing the outstanding performances of the participants. Krupal’s victory adds to the recent success of Indian chess players, with Erigaisi Arjun and Aravindh Chithambaram leading in the Sharjah Masters chess tournament.
As Krupal continues to make a name for himself in the chess world, his triumph serves as a testament to the talent and dedication of young players in the sport.
