US State Department Denies Russian Claims of US Involvement in Strikes in Crimea

Yesterday’s strikes in Crimea have sparked a war of words between Russia and the United States, with both sides pointing fingers at each other over the deadly attack that left four people dead and around 150 injured.

According to a spokesperson for the US state department, Russian claims that the US was behind the strikes are “ridiculous” and “hyperbolic”. Officials say that missile debris fell on a beach in Sevastopol in occupied Crimea, causing casualties among Russian civilians.

Russia’s defence ministry has alleged that the missiles used in the attack were US-supplied ATACMS missiles, and claimed that US specialists were involved in programming them. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned that there would be consequences for the US if Russian civilians continue to be killed in such attacks.

However, during a state department briefing, spokesperson Matthew Miller dismissed Russia’s claims as unfounded and wrong. He pointed out that Russia has a history of making baseless accusations, citing a previous incident where Russia blamed the US for a terror attack in Moscow despite being warned about it.

Miller emphasized that the US provides weapons to Ukraine to help defend its sovereign territory against armed aggression, including in Crimea. He called on Russia to end its occupation of Ukrainian territory and stop launching attacks on civilians to bring an end to the suffering caused by the ongoing war.

As tensions escalate between the two countries, the world watches closely to see how the situation in Crimea will unfold and whether diplomatic efforts can prevent further violence.
