World Chess Championship 2024 Preview: Will D. Gukesh make history as the youngest World Champion?
The World Chess Championship 2024 is set to kick off in Singapore on November 23, with D. Gukesh from Chennai taking on Ding Liren of China. If Gukesh emerges victorious, he will not only become the 18th World Champion but also the youngest in history, breaking Garry Kasparov’s record set in 1985.
The tournament, which has a rich history dating back to 1886, has seen only 17 World Champions so far. Kasparov, who became the 13th World Champion after a remarkable match against Anatoly Karpov, will be remembered for his incredible comeback after being down 5-0.
The World Chess Championship match between Gukesh and Ding Liren will start at 2:30 PM IST on Monday, November 25 at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. Fans can catch all the action live on FIDE and Chess.com social media handles, as well as on Sportstar’s daily match blog.
The schedule for the championship includes a total of 14 games, with tie-breaks scheduled for December 13 if needed. All games will start at 2:30 PM IST (17:00 local time), providing chess enthusiasts with plenty of opportunities to witness the battle for the prestigious title of World Chess Champion.
