Global Chess League’s Second Edition to be Held in London from October 3-12, Says FIDE

The Global Chess League is set to make a grand return with its second edition, scheduled to take place in London from October 3 to 12. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) announced the exciting news on Thursday, revealing that the prestigious 10-day event will be held at Friends House, a central location in the heart of London.

Following the success of the inaugural season in Dubai in 2023, the Global Chess League promises to bring together the world’s top players, including reigning world champions and rising stars, in a unique team format that emphasizes strategy, collaboration, and high-stakes play.

A joint initiative between FIDE and Indian IT company Tech Mahindra, the league aims to unite top chess players from around the globe in one of the most historic cities in the world. The tournament will feature a joint team format consisting of six players, with each team including two top women chess players and a prodigy player.

With each team playing a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin format, the competition will be fierce as players battle it out in a best-of-six board scoring system to determine the winner of each match.

FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, stating, “After a fantastic response to the inaugural season, we are excited to continue our mission of expanding the reach of chess worldwide and drawing in new experiences for chess fans. Tech Mahindra’s commitment to usher in a new era in the modern chess ecosystem is commendable, and we are confident that the second edition of the league will provide the right platform and push needed to further elevate the sport.”

Tech Mahindra’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mohit Joshi, also shared his enthusiasm for the league, highlighting the shared values between chess and business and the exciting opportunities that technology brings to both fields.

Chess fans and enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed and thrilling event as the Global Chess League returns for its second edition in London, promising to showcase the best of the best in the world of chess.
