Urgent Recall: Magnet Chess Game Poses Serious Health Risks
March 17, 2026, 2:24 p.m. ET — A popular magnet chess game, the Kluster Fun Tabletop Magnet Chess Game, has been recalled due to a significant risk of serious injury or death from magnetic ingestion, according to a recent announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall, initiated on March 12, affects approximately 151,600 units of the game, which has been found to violate mandatory safety standards for toys. The CPSC warns that the game contains loose, high-powered magnets that can fit within the agency’s small parts cylinder, posing a dangerous ingestion hazard, particularly for children.
What’s Inside the Box?
The Kluster game includes around 24 magnets, measuring between 0.5 to 1 inch wide and 0.3 to 0.4 inches high, an orange string, an instruction manual, and a black storage pouch emblazoned with the word “Kluster.” Some units were also sold in a white pouch featuring gameplay instructions on the back.
The Dangers of Magnetic Ingestion
Ingesting these magnets can lead to severe health complications. If swallowed, the magnets can attract each other inside the digestive system, potentially causing perforations, twisting, or blockage of the intestines, which can result in blood poisoning or even death.
Immediate Action Required
Stoney Games, the manufacturer, urges customers to stop using the recalled game immediately and keep it away from children. Consumers are advised to contact the company for guidance on safe disposal of the magnets and to request replacement magnets that do not pose a choking hazard.
Fortunately, no injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with this recall.
Where to Find the Game
The Kluster games were sold nationwide at independent game shops and online platforms, including Klustermagnets.com, Amazon.com, and Etsy.com, between October 2018 and September 2025, with prices ranging from $15 to $20. The games were manufactured in China, and the recall number is 26-319.
