Magnus Carlsen Dominates Rapid Play at Tata Steel Chess India Tournament in Kolkata

Magnus Carlsen, the world number one chess player, showed his dominance on the second day of the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid & Blitz tournament in Kolkata. After a slow start, Carlsen won all three rounds of Rapid play, solidifying his position at the top of the standings.

Carlsen began his day with a win over Indian grandmaster S.L. Narayanan, followed by victories over American grandmaster Wesley So and Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi. His impressive performance put him in first place in the Rapid standings with a total of 5 points.

Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who had led after the first day, slipped to second place with 4.5 points after drawing his first two rounds and winning the final one. Despite facing three Indian grandmasters on Thursday, Nodirbek managed to maintain a strong position in the standings.

Indian players had a mixed day, with S.L. Narayanan dropping to sixth place after suffering two losses and one draw. However, young Indian grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa emerged as India’s best performer of the day, climbing to fifth place with 3 points.

In the Women’s category, Russian grandmaster Aleksandra Goryachkina continued to dominate by winning all three rounds on the second day, securing the top spot with 5 points. Georgian grandmaster Nana Dzagnidze moved up to second place, while Indian grandmaster Vantika Agrawal remained in third place.
