FIDE released its latest ranking list for April 2025 on Tuesday, with Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen maintaining his top spot with a rating of 2837, gaining 4 points since the last update. Carlsen was followed by Hikaru Nakamura, who climbed to 2804, adding 2 points to his tally.

India’s dominance in the chess world was once again highlighted, with three Indian players making it to the top 10. Gukesh, Erigaisi, and Praggnanandhaa all featured on the list, with World Champion Gukesh D holding steady at number three.

The top 10 rankings are as follows:
1. Magnus Carlsen (Norway) – 2837 (+4)
2. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) – 2804 (+2)
3. Gukesh D (India) – 2787
4. Erigaisi Arjun (India) – 2782 (+5)

It was only a few months ago that Gukesh faced off against Magnus Carlsen in the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour, where he suffered a defeat in the final round. Despite the loss, Carlsen praised Gukesh’s bravery but noted that his lack of experience may have cost him the game.

India’s rising stars in the chess world continue to make their mark, with Gukesh and his compatriots showcasing their talent on the global stage. As the chess world evolves, it will be exciting to see how these players continue to shape the future of the game.
