Magnus Carlsen, the reigning World Rapid and Blitz Chess Champion, made headlines recently when he walked out of the major event after being told he couldn’t participate while wearing jeans. The Norwegian grandmaster, known as the greatest chess player in the world, was in New York defending his title when the ruling organization FIDE made the controversial decision.

According to reports, Carlsen offered to change his jeans for the next day but was fined and forced to change immediately. In response, he allegedly said, "I’m out, f*** you," and decided to withdraw from the competition. The 34-year-old chess icon explained that he didn’t even realize he was violating the dress code and felt it was a matter of principle for him.

Despite the incident, Carlsen stated that he will not challenge the ruling, saying, "Honestly, I am too old at this point to care too much." With 64 major chess titles to his name, including 12 blitz and rapid championship titles, Carlsen remains a dominant force in the game.

FIDE’s head, Emil Sutovsky, clarified that Carlsen was not disqualified from the tournament and can continue competing in the upcoming rounds. The controversy surrounding Carlsen’s attire has sparked a debate within the chess community about the importance of dress codes in the sport.
