Married woman jailed for stabbing man she regarded as boyfriend for talking to other women

A love triangle turned violent as a married woman stabbed a man she considered her boyfriend at his birthday party in Singapore. Sui Shiyinghui, 37, had consumed seven cans of beer before crashing the party and confronting the man for talking to other women. Despite their close friendship of four years, the man did not see himself in a relationship with Sui, who was married.

The confrontation took a dangerous turn when Sui grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the man in the chest after he dared her to do so. The victim was rushed to the hospital with a laceration on his left chest, but fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

Sui was sentenced to eight months in jail after pleading guilty to voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon. Despite being assessed as without a mental disorder, she was found to have been voluntarily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Her lawyer emphasized that Sui was a first-time offender and expressed remorse for her actions. Sui has since paid $1,000 in compensation for the victim’s medical bills. The maximum penalty for her offense is seven years in jail, a fine, caning, or a combination of these punishments.

This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of mixing alcohol with emotions and highlights the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully. Stay updated on the latest news by joining Yahoo Singapore’s Telegram channel.
