GM Abhimanyu Mishra Shines at Biel International Chess Festival, Le Quang Liem Takes Top Honors

Overall, the 57th Annual Biel International Chess Festival was a thrilling event filled with intense competition and surprising results. While GM Abhimanyu Mishra chose to forego defending his U.S. Junior Championship title in favor of competing in Biel, he put on an impressive performance, securing a share of first place in the Masters section alongside GM Le Quang Liem.

With Mishra’s strong showing in the classical leg of the tournament, including a notable victory over GM Sam Shankland, he solidified his position as America’s top junior and the strongest player in the world under 18. Meanwhile, GM Liem’s consistent podium finishes across all three legs of the competition ultimately earned him the title of overall winner.

Not to be overshadowed, GM Salem Salah dominated the Challengers section with a stellar performance in the blitz leg, showcasing his exceptional skills on the chessboard. Additionally, Vaishali Rameshbabu’s unexpected success in the classical leg earned her a well-deserved bronze medal and elevated her status as one of India’s top female players.
