Missouri Dominates Yale in Week Four of Collegiate Chess League Spring 2025

In a thrilling showdown in week four of the Collegiate Chess League Spring 2025 (CCL), the University of Missouri—Columbia team showcased their dominance with a resounding victory over the prestigious Yale University team. The Missouri team, known for their powerhouse lineup, proved why they are the favorites to make it back to the league finals with a commanding performance.

Yale, a formidable opponent despite not offering chess scholarships, boasts a strong roster including two grandmasters, Nicolas Checa and Arthur Guo, as well as International Master Maximillian Lu and National Master Linden Lee. However, they were no match for Missouri’s all-grandmaster lineup, featuring Aryan Tari, Mikhail Antipov, Luka Budisavljevic, and Isik Can.

Missouri set the tone early in the match by sweeping the first round 4-0, with Can securing a quick win against Checa, Yale’s top player. Can’s 100% accuracy game showcased Missouri’s determination and skill. Although Yale fought back in the subsequent rounds, Missouri maintained their lead, ultimately securing a decisive victory.

Despite the loss, Checa emerged as a standout player for Yale, remaining undefeated after the first round and finishing with an impressive 2.5/4 score. His victory against Antipov in the final round demonstrated his resilience and strategic prowess.

The Collegiate Chess League continues with week five on Saturday, February 22, promising more intense matchups and thrilling competition. With the league finals on the horizon, Missouri’s commanding performance in week four solidifies their position as a formidable contender in the CCL. Stay tuned for more exciting chess action as the competition heats up in the Collegiate Chess League Spring 2025.
