Muhamet Asllani: The Chess Champion Inspiring Youth in Gjilan

Muhamet Asllani, a well-known name in the game of chess for Kosovo, has been sharing his deep passion for this game of strategy since the age of 12. His dedication and successes have become a source of inspiration for the youth of Gjilan, as he continues to achieve important titles in the international arena.

“I am Muhamet Asllani. I have learned chess since the age of 12, participating in several local and international competitions. In 2013, I became the three-time champion of Kosovo for young people and now I am the runner-up of Kosovo for all ages,” says Asllani, who recently achieved the title of “candidate master” after participating in the European Club Championship in Serbia.

Asllani explains that there are three types of titles in chess: fide master, international master, and grandmaster. To further represent Kosovo, he will soon participate in the European Individual Championship in Montenegro.

Reflecting on his journey, Asllani describes how his chess strategies have evolved over the years, showcasing his experience and developed intuition for the game. Starting with E4 movements, known as the open game, he later incorporated D4 movements, or defensive movements, to strategically weaken his opponents.

For Asllani, chess is not just a game but a mind sport that cultivates important skills. He emphasizes the importance of preparation through literature and practice, utilizing various online platforms to enhance his chess logic.

Looking towards the future, Asllani mentions the upcoming opening of a chess house in the municipality of Gjilan. This space will provide students with the opportunity to learn the game and participate in competitions, further promoting the growth of chess in the community.

Asllani urges young people to take up chess, highlighting the values and contributions it offers. “Chess teaches patience, self-criticism, and responsibility, as every move is a responsibility in the game of chess,” he says, emphasizing the importance of these qualities in an increasingly competitive world.
