Exciting Results at Norway Chess 2024: Nakamura Dominates Ding, Carlsen and Praggnanandhaa Secure Late Wins

GM Hikaru Nakamura has made headlines in the chess world by reaching a rating of over 2800 for the first time in nine years. This achievement came after he handed a third defeat in a row to World Champion Ding Liren. Nakamura’s impressive performance also saw him climb to the world number-two spot, surpassing GM Fabiano Caruana who suffered another loss in the endgame, this time against Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu.

In a day filled with late drama, GM Alireza Firouzja also faced a tough defeat at the hands of world number-one Magnus Carlsen. The intense competition and unexpected outcomes have kept fans on the edge of their seats.

On the women’s side, GM Vaishali Rameshbabu maintained her lead in the Women’s Norway Chess tournament by defeating GM Lei Tingjie in armageddon. However, GM Anna Muzychuk’s second consecutive classical win has put her in sole second place, just one point behind the leader. Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun has been dominating in armageddon matches but finds herself in third place at the halfway mark.
