Teenage GMs Nihal Sarin and Denis Lazavik Dominate Titled Tuesday Events, Outlasting Giants Carlsen and Nakamura

Teenage GMs Nihal Sarin and Denis Lazavik emerged victorious in the Titled Tuesday events on June 18, outlasting giants like Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura. Nihal secured an early lead with an undefeated performance, while Lazavik clinched the win on tiebreaks despite losing to Nakamura in their head-to-head matchup.

In the early tournament, Nihal and Shant Sargsyan were the last players with perfect scores before drawing in the eighth round. Nihal then took the lead by defeating Fabiano Caruana in the ninth round and maintained his position by securing wins in the subsequent rounds. Meanwhile, Carlsen fought his way to second place with a five-game winning streak.

In the late tournament, Lazavik and Alexey Sarana ended each other’s perfect start with a draw in round eight. Lazavik went on to defeat Hans Niemann, but faced a tough challenge against Nakamura. Despite an early setback, Lazavik bounced back to beat Konstantin Popov in the final round.

Nakamura’s win in the last round wasn’t enough to secure first place as Lazavik claimed the victory on tiebreaks. Both Nihal and Lazavik earned cash prizes for their wins, with Nihal taking home $1,000 and Lazavik earning $1,000.

The Titled Cup standings are heating up as players compete for spots in the upcoming Speed Chess Championship. With one week left, the top players are battling it out for a chance to secure their positions in the prestigious tournament.

Overall, the Titled Tuesday events showcased the talent and determination of young GMs like Nihal Sarin and Denis Lazavik, setting the stage for an exciting competition in the world of chess.
