Singapore’s Approach to Dealing with Criticism: PM Lee Hsien Loong Emphasizes Listening and Learning
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong emphasized the importance of listening to criticism during his official visit to Rwanda. In a press conference, he stated that nobody has a monopoly on wisdom and that leaders must consider whether criticism is aimed at helping them improve.
PM Lee’s visit to Rwanda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting marked Singapore’s growing interactions with Africa. He highlighted the increasing opportunities for trade and investment between Singapore and Rwanda, as well as the deepening cooperation through the Singapore Cooperation Programme.
During the press conference, PM Lee announced a three-year technical cooperation package called the Singapore-Africa Partnership Package. This initiative aims to provide African officials with courses on priority areas such as climate change, sustainability, digitalization, and smart cities. Additionally, scholarships for senior African officials to study in Singapore universities will be offered.
As Singapore continues to strengthen its ties with Africa, PM Lee’s visit to Rwanda signifies the commitment to mutual growth and development. The engagement with African countries reflects Singapore’s efforts to expand its global partnerships and contribute to the progress of the continent.
