Kazybek Nogerbek Wins 2024 FIDE World Junior Chess Championship; Divya Deshmukh Dominates Girl’s Section

The 2024 FIDE World Junior Chess Championship concluded with 20-year-old IM Kazybek Nogerbek emerging as the surprise winner, defeating 13 grandmasters to claim the title. Nogerbek, the ninth seed, showcased his exceptional skills to finish on top in the Open section of the tournament held in Gandhinagar, India from June 2-13.

In the Girls section, 18-year-old top-seed IM Divya Deshmukh from India dominated the competition, securing an undefeated 10/11 score to clinch the championship title.

Nogerbek’s victory marked his third world championship title, following his previous successes in the World Youth U18 Championship. The Kazakh player, who has already met the requirements for the grandmaster title, showcased his talent and determination throughout the tournament.

On the other hand, Deshmukh’s triumph added another accolade to her recent success at the Sharjah Challengers tournament. The Indian player expressed her joy and hopes for future achievements after claiming the World Junior Chess Championship title.
