In the women’s category, Sana Omprakash Kayyar emerged victorious on a tiebreak against Woman Candidate Master Shakira Ampaire, both finishing with 6.5 points. Kayyar’s win earned her the top prize of Sh0.925m, with Ampaire settling for Sh0.775m.

The tournament also recognized the best junior players, with Ronald Wabwire and Zuri Tatiina leading the boys and girls categories, respectively. Each junior player received a plaque, a gold medal, and a cash prize of Sh0.1m for their outstanding performances.

The Zabasajja Memorial Chess Championship, held in honor of the late Ugandan FIDE Master William Zabasajja, showcased the immense talent and dedication of the participants. Sponsored by the National Council of Sports, the event brought together players of all ages to compete in a thrilling display of skill and sportsmanship.

With Nsubuga’s impressive victory and the outstanding performances of all the participants, the 2024 Zabasajja Memorial Chess Championship was truly a celebration of the enduring legacy of chess in Uganda.
