Prime Minister Narendra Modi praises Koneru Humpy for historic World Rapid Chess Championship win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has showered praise on Grandmaster Koneru Humpy after her remarkable victory at the FIDE Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship. Humpy, who staged a stunning comeback to clinch the title in New York, received accolades from the Prime Minister for her grit and brilliance.

In a tweet, PM Modi congratulated Humpy on her historic win, highlighting that this is her second world rapid championship title, making her the only Indian to achieve this incredible feat. The Prime Minister emphasized that Humpy’s success continues to inspire millions across the country.

This victory adds to India’s successful year in chess, with Gukesh Dommaraju recently being crowned the World Chess Champion after defeating China’s Ding Liren. Humpy’s win further solidifies India’s presence on the global chess stage.

Humpy, who had previously won the competition in 2019, expressed her happiness and excitement at securing her second world rapid title. Her journey in chess began when she became the youngest woman ever to achieve the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 years, 1 month, and 27 days. She is also the first female Indian grandmaster and has achieved numerous accolades in her career, including gold medals at the Olympiad, Asian Games, and Asian Championship.

With her latest triumph, Humpy continues to make waves in the world of chess, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination. Her success serves as an inspiration to aspiring chess players and fans alike, proving that hard work and dedication can lead to great achievements on the global stage.
