Indian Men’s Team Dominates Iran, Women’s Team Suffers Upset Against Poland in Chess Olympiad

In a thrilling turn of events at the 45th Chess Olympiad, the Indian men’s team continued their winning streak with a resounding 3.5-0.5 victory over Iran, solidifying their claim for the gold medal in the Open section. Led by world number four Arjun Erigaisi, the Indian team showcased their dominance in the game, with each player contributing to the team’s success.

Arjun Erigaisi set the tone for the match with a brilliant performance against Bardiya Daneshvar, while D Gukesh and Vidit Gujrathi further extended the team’s lead with their impressive victories. With this win, the Indian men’s team now stands at the top of the leaderboard with 16 points, two points ahead of their closest rivals Hungary and Uzbekistan.

Notably, Arjun Erigaisi’s exceptional performance has brought him closer to the coveted 2800-rating mark, making him only the second Indian player after Viswanathan Anand to achieve this milestone. Alongside Arjun, D Gukesh also showcased his prowess, climbing up the world rankings to join the top five for the first time in Indian chess history.

On the other hand, the Indian women’s team faced a setback with a 1.5-2.5 defeat against Poland in the eighth round. Despite the loss, the team put up a strong fight, with players like Divya Deshmukh and Vantika Agrawal displaying impressive performances.

With both the men’s and women’s teams gearing up for their upcoming matches against Uzbekistan and USA respectively, the stage is set for more thrilling encounters in the Chess Olympiad. As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on the Indian teams as they strive to maintain their winning momentum and secure top honors in the prestigious event.
