Praggnanandhaa, Nodirbeck, and Arjun Set to Shine as Superstar Men in Season Two of the Global Chess League

Global Chess League Season 2: Star-Studded Men Players Announced

The Global Chess League has announced its star-studded lineup of men players for the upcoming second season, set to take place from 3rd to 12th October at Friends House in London. The league, a collaboration between FIDE and Tech Mahindra, will feature some of the biggest names in the world of chess.

Joining the likes of Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Viswanathan Anand in the second season are rising stars such as Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Praggnanandhaa R, and Wei Yi. Praggnanandhaa, who was awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the first season for his outstanding performance, will be competing in the Superstar men’s category.

The competition will also see players like Vidit Gujrathi, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richárd Rapport, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and others battling it out in the 12-member list of Superstar men players. The league promises to be an exciting and intense battle of wits among some of the best chess players in the world.

Praggnanandhaa R expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, stating, “I am thrilled to be back for the second season of the Global Chess League. The inaugural season was a remarkable learning experience, and I am looking forward to an exciting season with my team in this unique televised chess event.”

Former FIDE World Rapid Champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, also shared his enthusiasm for the league, saying, “The roster of players is incredibly strong, and the format challenges players and teams alike. I am looking forward to another memorable outing with my team in the Global Chess League.”

CEO of the Global Chess League, Sameer Pathak, expressed his delight in announcing the list of Superstar men players for the upcoming season. He stated, “These elite players are poised to deliver thrilling and unforgettable games for their teams in the league’s innovative format that incentivizes risk-taking. We are confident that these players will deliver a remarkable chess spectacle in London.”

The league, which features a franchise-based format, will consist of six teams with a mix of Icon players, Superstar male and female players, and prodigies. Each team will play a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin format, with the winner of each match determined in a best-of-six board scoring system. Chess fans can expect an exciting and competitive season ahead in the Global Chess League.
