Magnus Carlsen to face off against Praggnanandhaa at Norway Chess 2024: A Clash of Titans

The highly anticipated rematch between Magnus Carlsen and Indian prodigy Praggnanandhaa is set to take place at the prestigious Norway Chess event at the end of this month. After Carlsen admitted that his “nervous system had collapsed” in a previous match against Pragg, fans are eager to see how the two will fare in this classical event.

Praggnanandhaa, just 18 years old, will be competing in the six-player open category alongside big names like Carlsen, current World Champion Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, and Alireza Firouzja. The event will be held in Stavanger, Norway, Carlsen’s home turf.

Not only will Pragg be competing, but Indian Grandmasters Koneru Humpy and Vaishali Rameshbabu will also be participating in the women’s section of the event. They will be facing off against top players like Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun, Lei Tingjie, Anna Muzychuk, and Pia Cramling.

The Norway Chess event, which has been running since 2013, has attracted some of the biggest names in the world of chess. This year, all eyes will be on the matchup between Praggnanandhaa and Magnus Carlsen in the classical format, following their previous encounters at the FIDE World Cup final and the Superbet Rapid and Blitz Poland.

The format of the Norway Chess event will be a double round robin, with classical games having a time control of 120 minutes with an increment of 10 seconds after move 40. There will also be provision for Armageddon games, where white gets 10 minutes and black gets 7, with a 1-second increment after move 41.

Players will earn three points for a classical win, 1.5 points for an Armageddon win, and 1 point for an Armageddon loss. With such a strong lineup of players and exciting matchups on the horizon, the Norway Chess event promises to be a thrilling competition for chess fans around the world.
