Indian Chess Team Dominates in First Round of Chess Olympiad in Budapest

In a stellar performance, the Indian men’s and women’s chess teams showcased their skills in the first round of the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest. R Praggnanandhaa led the charge for the men’s team, securing a 4-0 victory against Morocco. Meanwhile, the women’s team also had a strong showing, with only one draw against Jamaica.

Praggnanandhaa’s impressive win on the top board set the tone for the Indian men’s team. With Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi, and P Harikrishna also securing comfortable wins, the team started off confidently in the competition. Despite world championship challenger D Gukesh taking a break in the opening round, the team showed no signs of slowing down.

In the women’s section, R Vaishali and Tania Sachdev scored fine victories, while Divya Deshmukh and Vantika Agarwal faced stiff resistance in their games. Despite the occasional hiccups, the top players delivered strong performances for the Indian teams.

The top seeded United States team also had a successful start, winning 3.5-0.5 against Panama. Armenian-American Levon Aronian played a key role in securing a victory for the American team.

With 99 teams in the open section starting off with wins, the competition is heating up in Budapest. The Indian men’s team will face Iceland in the second round, while the women’s team continues their quest for victory.

Overall, the Indian chess teams have made a strong statement in the first round of the Chess Olympiad, showcasing their talent and determination on the international stage.
