Indian Chess Prodigy R Praggnanandhaa Tries His Hand at Making Dosa for the First Time
Indian chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa, known for his strategic brilliance on the chessboard, recently took on a new challenge—making dosa for the first time. In a lighthearted moment shared on social media, Praggnanandhaa’s coach, Ramachandran Ramesh, posted a picture of the young grandmaster attempting to cook the iconic South Indian dish.
The now-viral post on social media showed Ramesh sharing his thoughts on Praggnanandhaa’s culinary journey. “First time R Praggnanandhaa is learning to make Dosa at my cost. To be honest, he got better with each attempt,” Ramesh wrote, acknowledging the progress made by his student. The post ended with a humorous touch, with Ramesh jokingly saying, “Rendu dosa suda suda parcel,” which translates to “Two hot dosas for takeaway.”
While Praggnanandhaa may be a chess champion, it seems his skills in the kitchen are still a work in progress. Earlier this year, Praggnanandhaa made headlines when he claimed victory in the Tata Steel Masters 2025, defeating World Champion D Gukesh in a tense tiebreak match in Wijik aan Zee, Netherlands. His remarkable win made him the first Indian since Viswanathan Anand in 2006 to claim the title.
Ramesh, also a former chess champion and distinguished coach, was honoured with the Dronacharya Award for his contributions to Indian chess. Along with his wife, Woman Grandmaster Aarthie Ramaswamy, the couple forms India’s first grandmaster duo, leaving their mark in the world of chess.
While Praggnanandhaa continues to excel on the chessboard, his foray into the kitchen shows a different side to the young grandmaster. As he hones his dosa-making skills, fans eagerly await to see if he can master this new challenge with the same determination and focus that has made him a chess prodigy.
