The chess world is gearing up for an exciting event as the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships 2024 are set to take place in the vibrant capital city of Kazakhstan from August 1 to 6, 2024. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event in Düsseldorf, Germany, this year’s championships promise to be even bigger and better with the addition of a Blitz competition.

Some of the world’s top chess professionals, including former World Champion Magnus Carlsen, will be participating in the championships. Current World Champions Ju Wenjun and Ding Liren will also be in attendance, adding to the event’s prestige and promising an exciting experience for both players and fans.

The championships will feature two formats over 5 days of intense chess battles. The Rapid Tournament will consist of a 12-round Swiss system with a time control of 15 minutes per game plus a 10-second increment per move. The Blitz Tournament will have teams competing in pools in Stage 1, with the top 16 teams advancing to a knockout stage in Stage 2. The time control for the Blitz Tournament is 3 minutes per game with a 2-second increment per move.

With a total prize fund of 350,000 euros, the championships offer substantial rewards for the top performers. Teams must register by July 1, 2024, and comprise 6 to 9 players, including at least one female player and one recreational player rated below 2000 Elo.

The event will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, a city known for its modern infrastructure and rich cultural heritage. The QazExpo Congress venue will provide the perfect setting for the world-class competition.

Teams can take advantage of special accommodation offers until June 1, 2024, with the chance to win refunds and free accommodation through accommodation lotteries. For more information and to register, visit the official event website and follow the social media channels for updates.

Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of chess history in Astana this August. Register your team now and get ready for an unforgettable experience.
