2025 World Junior Chess Championships in Montenegro: Registration and Tournament Details

The World Junior Chess Championships are set to take place in Montenegro in 2025, and chess enthusiasts are gearing up for an exciting event. The tournament, organized by FIDE and the Chess Federation of Montenegro, will be held at the Hotel Palas in Petrovac from February 23 to March 8.

Players will compete in two sections, Open and Girls, with eligibility based on their age as of January 1, 2025. Participants must not be 20 years old after this date to qualify for the tournament. Direct titles will be awarded according to FIDE regulations, and the complete event regulations can be found on the FIDE website.

The tournament will consist of 11 rounds, with a time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, and an increment of 30 seconds per move. Accommodation for all participants will be provided at the official hotel, Hotel Palas, with transportation from the airport included on arrival and departure dates.

Registration for USA players is open until January 24, with fees including a tournament registration fee, FIDE entry fee, and accommodation fee. A current US Chess membership and a USA-flagged FIDE ID are required for all participants.

While US Chess will facilitate registrations, players are required to sign a waiver for participation, and are advised to check the US State Department’s Travel Advisory website for the latest information on traveling to Montenegro. For any inquiries about the event, players can contact Brian Yang, US Chess FIDE Events Manager. Get ready for an intense battle of wits at the 2025 World Junior Chess Championships!
