Lula’s Personal Experience at the 2024 Reykjavik Open: A Recap of Top-Board Results

Lula, one of the most popular Chess.com streamers, recently shared her personal experience at the 2024 Reykjavik Open, a prestigious chess tournament held in Iceland. Lula, who earned her WCM title in 2024, reflected on her journey in chess and how the tournament reignited her passion for the game.

Returning to Reykjavik, where she played her first over-the-board tournament in 2022, Lula found herself facing tough opponents and challenging games. Despite some missed opportunities, she was proud of her performance and the progress she had made in her chess journey. Drawing with higher-rated players and holding her own in intense endgames showed her growth as a player.

The tournament was not just about the games for Lula; it was also a chance to reconnect with friends and fellow streamers in the chess community. The social aspect of the event, from preparing for games together to exploring Reykjavik’s nightlife, added to the overall experience.

Among the top players at the Reykjavik Open was Romanian GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac, who emerged as the winner with a score of 7.5/9. GM Sebastien Maze and GM Paulius Pultinevicius took second and third place, respectively. Lula finished with a score of 3.5/9 but was pleased with her performance and the fun she had during the tournament.

As the event came to a close, Lula reflected on the memorable moments, including witnessing Iceland’s erupting volcano on her way to the airport. The Reykjavik Open not only provided a platform for intense chess battles but also created lasting memories and renewed Lula’s love for over-the-board chess.

Overall, the 2024 Reykjavik Open was a successful and enjoyable event for Lula and the chess community, showcasing the competitive spirit and camaraderie that make chess tournaments truly special.
