“TRGV Holds Off Lviv State University in Collegiate Chess League Spring 2025 Week 7 Match”

In a thrilling showdown in week seven of the Collegiate Chess League Spring 2025 (CCL), the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (TRGV) narrowly defeated Lviv State University of Physical Culture with a score of 9-7. TRGV, led by Grandmasters Jose Cardoso and Gleb Dudin, faced off against Lviv’s strong lineup featuring Grandmasters Igor Kovalenko and Martyn Kravtsiv.

The match started with TRGV taking an early lead after Ozenir’s impressive victory over Kovalenko in the first round. Despite Lviv’s efforts to stabilize the match, TRGV maintained their lead throughout the rounds. Kravtsiv’s stellar performance with a perfect 4-0 score was a highlight for Lviv, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

The final round saw a twist as Voloshchuk scored an upset against Fus, giving Lviv a chance to come back. However, Kovalenko’s loss to Dudin sealed the victory for TRGV. The match showcased intense battles and strategic gameplay from both teams.

The CCL continues with week eight on Saturday, March 15, at 2 p.m. ET. Stay tuned for more exciting matchups in the premier online chess competition for college students.
