The 2024 FIDE Candidates Tournament kicked off with a bang as players showcased their fighting spirit on the opening day. Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura made a bold move by sacrificing two rooks against Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana, setting the tone for an intense battle. Meanwhile, Grandmaster Alireza Firouzja and Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu engaged in a duel of imagination and counterstrikes, while Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi surprised everyone with a sudden move against Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju.
