Russian Chess Star Amina Abakarova Suspended for Poisoning Rival with Mercury at Tournament

The world of chess was rocked by a shocking incident as Russian chess star Amina Abakarova was suspended for allegedly poisoning her childhood rival, Umayganat Osmanova, during a tournament in southern Russia. The incident, captured on CCTV footage, showed Abakarova approaching Osmanova’s table and spilling a deadly substance, later identified as mercury, over the chessboard and pieces.

The video, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage and disbelief among the chess community. Osmanova fell ill during the tournament and required immediate medical attention, leading to Abakarova’s arrest. If found guilty, she could face up to three years of imprisonment for her actions.

In a statement to the Mirror US, Sazhida Sazhidova, the minister of sport in Dagestan, expressed bewilderment at Abakarova’s actions, stating that her motives were incomprehensible. Abakarova claimed that her motive for the poisoning was personal hostility, stemming from a previous defeat by Osmanova in a regional contest.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of chess tournaments, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future. As the investigation continues, the chess world waits anxiously for justice to be served in this disturbing case.
