FIDE World Cadets Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2025 Set to Take Place in Greece
Exciting news for chess enthusiasts as FIDE, in collaboration with the Greece Chess Federation, has announced the upcoming FIDE World Cadets Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2025. The prestigious event is scheduled to be held from April 12-18, 2025, at the luxurious Rodos Palace 5**** in Rhodes, Greece.
This championship is specifically focused on the World Cadet and Youth Rapid and Blitz categories, offering a unique and fast-paced chess experience for players and spectators alike. With twelve sections available, including Open and Girls categories in age groups ranging from Under 8 to Under 18, there is something for every young chess prodigy to showcase their skills on an international stage.
Players’ age eligibility for each section is determined by their age as of January 1, 2025, ensuring fair competition across all categories. The tournament will feature an 11-round Swiss system format, with the Rapid portion using a time control of 15 minutes and the Blitz portion using a time control of 5 minutes, both with increment per move starting from move 1.
For participants, accommodations at the official event hotel are mandatory for security and organizational reasons. The organizer offers various room options for 6 nights, including meals, with transportation provided from Rhodes International Airport on arrival and departure dates.
Registration for USA players is currently open, with a deadline of January 31, 2025, to secure a spot in the championship. Additional fees apply, including a Tournament Registration Fee, FIDE Entry Fee, US Chess Administrative Fee, and Accommodations fee. A valid US Chess membership and a USA-flagged FIDE ID are required for all U.S. participants.
Players must adhere to the refund policy, with requests for refunds accepted until February 7, 2025. Travel waivers will also be required for all participants, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for everyone involved.
