SMCA Chess School to Host All India FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in Mumbai

SMCA Chess School is gearing up to host the prestigious All India FIDE Rating Chess Tournament at Russian House, Pedder Road, Mumbai, from 11th to 16th October 2024. With around 220 players from all corners of India expected to participate, this five-day championship is set to be a thrilling showcase of talent and skill in the world of chess.

The tournament will take place in air-conditioned playing halls, providing participants with a professional and comfortable setting to compete in. What’s more, the top 10 board matches will be available for viewing live via a web link, allowing chess enthusiasts nationwide to witness high-level gameplay in real time.

Tournament Director and Co-founder of SMCA Chess School, Durga Nagesh Guttula, shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Our aim with this tournament is to promote chess in India and provide players with an unparalleled playing experience. By offering world-class facilities and live access to top matches, we hope to inspire more individuals to engage with chess and nurture new talent.”

Endorsed by the All India Chess Federation (AICF), FIDE, Mumbai City District Chess Association (MCDCA), and Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA), this tournament is set to be a standout event in the Indian chess calendar. A total prize fund of ₹3,00,000 will be up for grabs, with International Master Vikramaditya Kulkarni, boasting an Elo rating of 2185, leading the pack as the top seed.

To ensure fair play and smooth conduct throughout the tournament, International Arbiter PB Bhilare has been appointed as the Chief Arbiter, with IA Sandesh Nagarnaik serving as the Deputy Arbiter.
