Chess Star Vantika Agrawal Aims to Break into Top 10 Women Players’ Global Rankings and Secure Grandmaster Title
India’s rising chess star, Vantika Agrawal, has set her sights on breaking into the top 10 women player’s global rankings and securing the Grandmaster title after being honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award. The 39th ranked player in the world women’s classical rankings described winning the award as one of the “most defining moments” of her career.
Vantika expressed her gratitude to her coaches, family, and mentors for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She credited her hard work and dedication for earning the recognition and highlighted the role of the Pravaha Foundation and MGD1 in her success.
Having delivered an outstanding performance during India’s historic Chess Olympiad victory in 2024, Vantika climbed 12 places in the global rankings and earned 13 ELO points. She now aims to inspire a new generation of Indian chess players, especially women, to believe in their potential and strive for excellence.
Meanwhile, Indian squash player Abhay Singh, who was also chosen for the Arjuna Award, expressed his excitement about the honor but admitted that the emotion has yet to fully sink in. Currently training in England, Abhay aims to break into the top 30 of world rankings this year.
Both Vantika and Abhay are looking forward to the upcoming season, with Vantika focusing on her goal of reaching the top 10 women player’s global rankings and Abhay preparing for several events in the USA before competing in the National Games in Dehradun.
