SRM-A Dominates Regular Season of 2024 India College Chess Championship

In a stunning display of skill and strategy, Team SRM-A completed a clean sweep with a perfect 7-0 record at the end of the regular season of the 2024 India College Chess Championship (ICCL). Their dominance was evident as they picked up wins with massive margins against SRCC (13.5 – 2.5) and Roaring Dolphins (11.5 – 4.5) in rounds six and seven respectively.

Despite their impressive performance, Team St. Joseph’s College of Engineering put up a strong fight and finished second in the Division I standings with just one loss. They clinched victories against VIT-A (12-4) and Roaring Dolphins (9-7) to secure their spot in the playoffs.

The intense competition in the ICCL highlighted the brutal nature of chess, where one wrong move can change the outcome of the game entirely. Players were challenged to think strategically and avoid costly blunders that could cost them the match.

As the playoffs season begins, the top-six teams of each division have qualified to compete for the top prizes. In Division 2, BITS Pilani ‘A’ team scored a perfect 7/7, while in Division 3, Xaviers Team ‘A’ topped the regular season.

The India College Chess Championship continues to be a premier online chess competition for college students in India, featuring a $15,000 prize fund. Stay tuned for updates on the playoffs and the exciting matches to come as the battle for the championship title heats up.
