Sue Perkins, the beloved former host of “The Great British Bake Off” and contestant on “Taskmaster,” is set to take on a new hosting role on BBC Two. Perkins will be fronting a new chess competition series titled “Chess Masters,” which is scheduled to air on BBC Two and the iPlayer streaming service.

The show, which has a working title at this stage, will consist of eight 30-minute episodes where 12 talented amateurs from across Britain will compete against each other in the world’s oldest game. Perkins expressed her excitement about the new role, stating, “It’s all about psychology, strategy, smart thinking, and nerves of steel. Chess that is, not my job (which usually involves the opposite).”

Howell shared his enthusiasm for the show, saying, “Chess has been a huge part of my life, and I cannot wait to invite viewers into the subtleties and intrigues of the game, as well as introducing them to the chess community.”

Mathurin added, “I am exhilarated and incredibly excited to showcase and deep dive into the intense inner psychological battle of competitive chess with a twist of the unexpected. Let the games begin!”

With the return of chess to TV screens after over 30 years, “Chess Masters” promises to be a thrilling and engaging competition that will captivate viewers. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new series!
