PGB Alaskan Knights continue unbeaten streak in Global Chess League with fourth consecutive win

The PGB Alaskan Knights continued their dominant run in the Global Chess League, securing their fourth consecutive victory on Saturday. Led by Anish Giri, the Knights put on a stellar performance at Friends House, defeating Ganges Grandmasters with a commanding score of 12-3.

Giri, who drew with five-time champion Viswanathan Anand on the Icon board, saw his teammates step up with crucial wins. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov triumphed over Parham Maghsoodloo, while Nihal Sarin secured a victory against Volodar Murzin. The Alaskan women also made significant contributions, with Tan Zhongyi defeating R. Vaishali and Alina Kashlinskaya besting Nurgyul Salimova.

Despite their flawless record so far, Giri remained cautious about the Knights’ success. “Yes we have won four out of four, but as we saw last year, the teams that start well may not be able to keep winning,” he shared with The Hindu. “It was a really good day for us.”

With 12 match points, the Alaskan Knights maintained their lead in the league standings. Triveni Continental Kings and Alpine SG Pipers followed closely behind with six points each. The SG Pipers secured a 12-4 victory against Upgrad Mumba Masters, while the Continental Kings proved too strong for American Gambits, led by Alireza Firouzja’s impressive win over Hikaru Nakamura on the Icon board.

The league results showcased the competitive nature of the Global Chess League, with top players delivering thrilling matches and surprising outcomes. As the season progresses, fans can expect more intense battles and strategic gameplay from the participating teams.
