GM Andrew Tang Wins Bullet Brawl for Second Time, Ending Naroditsky’s Streak
GM Andrew Tang made a triumphant return to the online chess scene by claiming victory in Saturday’s Bullet Brawl tournament. Tang’s impressive performance saw him win 70 games and accumulate 253 points, securing the $400 first prize and his second title in the event. This marked the first time since March that a player not named GM Hikaru Nakamura, GM Daniel Naroditsky, or GM Oleksandr Bortnyk emerged victorious in the tournament.
In a field filled with top players such as Naroditsky, Bortnyk, and Jose Martinez, Tang showcased his attacking prowess and tactical skills to dominate the competition. His streak of 20 consecutive wins towards the end of the tournament solidified his position at the top of the standings.
Naroditsky finished in second place with 238 points, followed by Martinez in third and Christopher Yoo in fourth. WGM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya claimed the $100 best women’s prize.
The next Bullet Brawl is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at noon ET/18:00 CEST.
Tang, who works as a quantitative trader at SIG, has been balancing his professional career with his passion for chess. Despite limited over-the-board opportunities, Tang has continued to impress in online events, including his recent victory in the 2024 Hyperbullet Championship.
Chess fans were treated to exciting battles between Tang and his opponents, with many games showcasing his tactical brilliance. One notable game against FM Mykola Korchynskyi highlighted Tang’s strategic prowess with three brilliant moves.
Additionally, the performance of 10-year-old FM Faustino Oro, who finished ninth in the tournament, caught the attention of fans. Oro, who recently competed in Madrid and narrowly missed picking up an IM norm, displayed impressive skills against a strong field of players.
Overall, Tang’s victory in the Bullet Brawl tournament reaffirms his status as a formidable force in the online chess world. With his exceptional gameplay and strategic acumen, Tang continues to captivate audiences and inspire aspiring chess players around the globe.
