NEW DELHI: Gukesh Dommaraju, the youngest-ever World Chess Champion, showcased his exceptional skills during Round 7 of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2025 in Wijk aan Zee. Facing off against compatriot Pentala Harikrishna, Gukesh displayed his prowess in classical chess, ultimately emerging victorious.

In a strategic battle that saw both players making calculated moves, Gukesh opted for the French Opening against Harikrishna. Despite a strong start from Harikrishna, a misstep on move 12 allowed Gukesh to seize control of the board. Gukesh’s precise play and strategic dominance led to a critical moment on move 20, where Harikrishna missed a key opportunity to counter.
