Indian Men Led by In-Form Stars Gukesh and Arjun Secure Victory Over Azerbaijan in Chess Olympiad

In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, the Indian men’s chess team secured a 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan in the fifth round of the 45th Chess Olympiad. Spearheaded by the dynamic duo of D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaise, the Indian team showcased their dominance on the board.

Gukesh and Arjun delivered impressive performances, overpowering their opponents with precision and speed. Gukesh secured his fourth victory in a row, while Arjun continued his winning streak, bringing his total to five wins in as many games. Arjun’s exceptional gameplay has propelled him to an impressive 2888 ELO rating points, just 12 points shy of the coveted 2800 mark achieved only by Viswanathan Anand.

The Indian team’s success was further solidified by strong performances from Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi, who played crucial roles in securing the team’s victory. With this win, the Indian men’s team maintained a perfect record of ten points, putting them in the lead alongside Vietnam in the standings.

In the women’s section, Team India also showcased their prowess, with D Harika suffering a surprising defeat but the team rallying together to secure a 2-2 draw against Kazakhstan. Led by Vaishali’s decisive victory, the Indian women’s team joined Armenia and Mongolia at the top of the standings with ten points each.

As the Chess Olympiad progresses, the Indian teams continue to impress with their strategic gameplay and unwavering determination. With six rounds still to come, all eyes are on Team India as they aim to maintain their winning momentum and secure victory in this prestigious tournament.
