The 4th All India Chess Tournament for Specially Abled Chess Players by Tata Steel commences on June 24th

4th All India Chess Tournament for Specially abled players – Celebrating Chess Superstars with Physical Challenges!

The 4th All India Chess Tournament for Specially abled players is set to take place in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, organized by Tata Steel Limited and Tata Steel Foundation under the Chess Federation for Physically disabled. This tournament is a celebration of the inspiring personalities in chess who overcome physical challenges to compete in the game of 64 squares.

The tournament will run from 24th to 28th June 2024 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. It will be a 9-round classical tournament with a time control of 60 minutes + 30 second increment starting from move one. The opening ceremony will kick off at 6 PM on 24th June, followed by 3 rounds of Chess on the first day and 2 rounds each on the following days.

The tournament offers a total prize fund of Rs. 3,17,000, with the Champion of the Open section receiving a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. There are also categories like Wheel Chair, Unrated, Women, U19 Junior Open, and Girls, providing opportunities for players of all backgrounds.

Players like Venkata Krishna Karthik K, the 2nd seed, who finished as runners-up in the 3rd All India Physically Challenged Rating Chess Championship 2022, will be participating in the tournament. IA Anandh Babu VL, the Chief Arbiter of the tournament, will ensure fair play and adherence to the rules.

Tata Steel Limited and Tata Steel Foundation have a long-standing commitment to supporting chess, with events like Tata Steel Chess in Wijk Aan Zee and Tata Steel Chess India. The JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, the tournament venue, has previously hosted prestigious events like the Tata Steel Asian Junior Championships.
