Three American Teams to Compete in FIDE World Team Senior Championship

Meet the Teams Competing in the FIDE World Senior Team Championship 2024

The FIDE World Senior Team Championship is set to kick off on July 1 in Krakow, Poland, and this year promises to be an exciting event with three teams competing for the title. Let’s meet the teams and see what they have in store for us!

In the Open (age 50+) category, the team is comprised of seasoned Grandmasters including Vladimir Akopian, Jaan Ehlvest, Igor Novikov, Alexander Shabalov (Captain), and Melikset Khachiyan. This team is looking to defend their title from last year, with Akopian and Khachiyan joining the lineup this time around.

On the women’s side, there will be two teams competing in the Women’s (age 50+) and Women’s (age 65+) sections. The Women’s (age 50+) team includes WGM Anjelina Belakovskaia (Captain), WIM Beatriz Marinello, WFM Olga Sagalchik, WFM Natalya Tsodikova, and WFM Ivona Jezierska. In the Women’s (age 65+) section, the team consists of WIM Shernaz Kennedy, Julia O’Neill, Elizabeth Carmel Shaughnessy, Amy C Nunn, and Mary “Polly” Wright.

The games are set to begin on July 2 at 8:00 a.m. CDT, with one round played each day except for a rest day on July 7. The final round will take place on July 11, starting five hours earlier.
