The prestigious Norway Chess Women tournament has just announced the participation of some of the top female chess players in the world, including Women’s world No.2 Ju Wenjun of China, No. 9 Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine, and No. 21 Sarasadat Khademalsharieh of Spain. The event, scheduled to take place from May 26 to June 6 in Stavanger, Norway, will also feature India’s rising star R. Vaishali.

Vaishali, the elder sister of Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa, has already confirmed her participation in the tournament, showcasing her talent and determination in the world of women’s chess. The presence of Wenjun, Muzychuk, and Khademalsharieh adds even more excitement to the competition, as they are all accomplished players with impressive track records in the chess world.

Wenjun, in particular, stands out as a formidable force in women’s chess, with multiple world championship titles and a high live rating of 2,563. Muzychuk, a three-time world champion in fast chess, and Khademalsharieh, a rising star from Spain, bring their own unique strengths and skills to the tournament.

The Norway Chess Women tournament is known for its distinctive six-player double round-robin format, which allows for intense and exciting matches between the top male and female players in the world. In addition to the women’s competition, the event will also feature a highly-anticipated contest between India’s world champion D. Gukesh and the world’s highest-rated player, Magnus Carlsen.

Gukesh, who recently claimed the world championship title, will be looking to make his mark in Stavanger after finishing third in the tournament in 2023. Joining him in the men’s category is Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi, who has recently reached the prestigious ELO rating of 2800, following in the footsteps of legendary player Viswanathan Anand.

With such a strong lineup of players from around the world, the Norway Chess Women tournament promises to be a thrilling and competitive event that will showcase the best of women’s chess on the international stage.
