Whopper Crocodile Killed Following Fatal Attack on Fisherman in Far North Queensland

A terrifying incident unfolded in Far North Queensland over the weekend as a massive 4.9m crocodile was euthanised following a fatal attack on a fisherman. The Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation confirmed that the large crocodile believed to be responsible for the attack on a NSW man was located in a small creek near the incident location.

The tragic event occurred on the Annan River near Cooktown, leaving the man’s wife and children traumatized after witnessing the horrifying attack. The family had stopped near the river for a fishing trip when the man fell into the water and did not resurface. Witnesses reported seeing a large crocodile in the area before the man fell in, sparking a frantic search and rescue mission involving multiple agencies.

Locals revealed that a crocodile known as “Crocodile Bend” frequents the area and is often seen feeding on roadkill thrown into the river. Disturbing footage on social media showed a man feeding a crocodile in the water, prompting wildlife officers to investigate the illegal activity.

Authorities are continuing the search for the missing father using drones and watercraft to cover approximately 5km of waterways. The crocodile responsible for the attack has not been located since the incident, adding to the tension in the area known as “Croc Country.”

As the investigation unfolds, wildlife officers are reminding the public to practice ‘CrocWise’ behavior and exercise caution in crocodile habitats. The community is urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving crocodiles to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the region.
