GM Alexander Grischuk Wins Early Edition of Titled Tuesday, GM Minh Le Victorious in Late Tournament

GM Alexander Grischuk, fresh off his impressive second-place finish in Titled Tuesday, redeemed himself by winning the early edition of the tournament on May 28. Grischuk scored 9.5 points and clinched the victory on tiebreaks ahead of GMs Vasif Durarbayli and Jan-Krzysztof Duda. In the late tournament, GM Minh Le emerged victorious with 10 points after receiving crucial help from his final-round opponent.

The early tournament saw a slightly lower turnout due to the ongoing Norway Chess event, but still attracted 671 participants. Grischuk’s path to victory included three draws in rounds five through nine before securing a crucial win against GM Sam Sevian in the 10th round. In the late tournament, GM Hikaru Nakamura initially seemed poised for another win but faltered in the final rounds, allowing Le to claim the top spot.

With their respective victories, Grischuk and Le earned cash prizes, with Grischuk taking home $1,000 and Le earning $750. The top finishers in both tournaments received monetary rewards, with IM Renato Terry and IM Karina Ambartsumova also securing prizes as the top-scoring woman in their respective events.

The Titled Cup standings saw Le and Ambartsumova making significant moves, with Nakamura and GM Alexandra Kosteniuk maintaining their lead in the overall standings. Other category leaders include GM Denis Lazavik in juniors, GM Gata Kamsky in seniors, and WCM Veronika Shubenkova in the girls’ division.

Overall, the intense competition and thrilling victories in Titled Tuesday showcased the incredible talent and determination of the top chess players in the world. The weekly tournament continues to be a highlight for chess enthusiasts, providing exciting matchups and fierce competition for players and fans alike.
