New Delhi [India], September 26: The Indian chess team was honored by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, for their outstanding performance at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad. The event, held in New Delhi, celebrated the team’s remarkable achievements that have brought immense pride and joy to the nation.

During the felicitation ceremony, Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized India’s rich connection with chess, highlighting that the game originated in India and is an integral part of the country’s cultural and intellectual heritage. He commended the team for their global success, stating that they have not only made the nation proud but have also honored the legacy of India’s traditional heritage.

Mandaviya further reiterated the government’s commitment to sports development, stating that India aims to be among the top five nations in the world in sports by 2024. The men’s and women’s teams emerged victorious by defeating Slovenia and Azerbaijan in the final rounds, with Team India topping the table with exceptional performances. Four Indian players also secured individual gold medals for their outstanding contributions to the team’s success.
