Severe Weather Alert: Mississippi State University Monitors Potential Impacts on Weekend Events
STARKVILLE, Miss.—As potentially dangerous weather conditions loom over the state, Mississippi State University is closely monitoring the situation and will issue an update on any impacts to this weekend’s baseball schedule by 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15.
The National Weather Service has issued warnings for the northern two-thirds of Mississippi, including the Starkville and Meridian campuses, as well as several MAFES and Extension research facilities. The forecast includes an enhanced risk of severe storms with damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail starting Friday evening.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MSEMA) and NWS officials are predicting an even greater risk of severe weather on Saturday, with the likelihood of tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. MSU is urging students, faculty, and staff to stay informed through official university channels and exercise caution when traveling.
In response to the weather alerts, tonight’s MSU Baseball game with the University of Texas Longhorns has been rescheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Dudy Noble Field. Other sporting events scheduled for the weekend are under review by MSU Athletics in consultation with Southeastern Conference officials.
The university has canceled the Chess Tournament on the Starkville campus and there are no events scheduled at the Riley Center at MSU-Meridian.
