Indian Grandmaster R Vaishali Continues Dream Run in Norway Chess Tournament

Indian Grandmaster R Vaishali continues her dream run at the Norway chess tournament, defeating veteran GM Pia Cramling of Sweden in the fourth round. Vaishali now leads the tournament with 8.5 points, followed closely by women’s world champion Wenjun Ju of China and Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine.

In the men’s section, world number one Magnus Carlsen secured a victory against Fabiano Caruana of the United States, while Firouzja Alireza of France defeated reigning world champion Ding Liren of China. Hikaru Nakamura of the USA currently leads the men’s section with seven points.

Vaishali’s victory came after a drawn rook and pawns endgame, showcasing her perseverance and strategic skills. In the women’s section, Muzychuk secured her first victory in Classical chess in almost seven months by defeating Koneru Humpy.

In the men’s section, Nakamura capitalized on unforced errors from R Praggnanandhaa, ultimately securing a win after 86 moves. Carlsen also emerged victorious against Caruana in a Queen and pawns endgame.

With six rounds remaining in the tournament, the competition is heating up as players vie for the $1,61,000 prize money. Vaishali’s impressive performance has solidified her position as a strong contender in the tournament, showcasing her skill and determination on the chessboard.
